My SARS experience🕴

Did I share my police harassment story with you? I guess I didn't

Well, as much as I always try to evade addressing the negative sides in the police force because of the people I have there, I won't hesitate to speak now.

I posted something on my WhatsApp status on Sunday when I saw the news that SARS has been dissolved and the caption reads thus ''FG finally shenk SARS, our boyfriends are free now.''

The reaction of people really surprised me when some started questioning me to know whether I'm dating a yahoo boy. Some even went to the extent of accusing me of being a party to fraud.

Lol, I was like ''what the feck!''

SARS do not only chase after yahoo boys, they harass you when you look too good to be true.

Okay wait, you saw the comedy skit of a guy who defined SARS?

Dread, iPhone, laptop, chains, designer wears et cetera.

How many is my body that SARS officer is stopping me?

So it happened like this o, I took a bike from Sango to Iwo road (within Ibadan metropolis). I had a laptop in my bag, turned my facecap to the back, plugged in my earpiece and was enjoying the breeze, the shuffled songs and ehmmmm, yea, the smooth ride on the highway.

Just some kilometres away from the Officer's Mess, my bike man was stopped by two men carrying rifles but without uniforms.

Was asked to get down, gave them my bag, they removed the laptop and checked (who knows if they wanted to confirm if it was an apple brand) even after I had made them know that I had nothing hidden on it.

They ordered me to unlock my phone, searched through, didn't find anything implicating but still won't let me go.

Kai! As to say they are armed, I no fit talk plenty. I just dey borrow myself brain make e no cum turn to stories that touch.

To add up, it was a morning and I was running late for work already.

They delayed the bikeman and me for several minutes.

I showed them my press ID card but I realized they didn't even regard it.

The plenty sense I have saved me that day. I called one of my bosses at the office who knows somebody that knows somebody (you know how the link works right?)

He asked me to give the phone to one of the men and yea, we were let go.

The few lines of my explanation might not really describe what I went through in the hands of these people on that day but I'm glad worse wasn't done to me.

That story you just read ehn was a friend's experience and yea, we still hear and read about near death experience of others.

You see ehn, I would advocate for SARS ending over and over again.

They are meant to protect us from robbers but the reverse is the case.

The brutality from the people meant to safeguard the lives and properties of the citizens is beyond mere explanation and this has got to stop.

Do you have any SARS harassment or exploitation experience?

How did you escape?

What else would you clamour for in this country?

  2. Can't we live our life without the fear of getting killed?
    Lives are very important.
They should be held and treated dearly.

    The brutality has to stop.
I clamour for peace and justice.

Can I live your life for you??

What happens when a lot of people are pointing out the right way you ought to live for you? The moment someone says "it's done this way" and another tell you "that way would be better" All you put yourself to is simply FRUSTRATION. Generally speaking, we love acceptance as human beings. We want to do things that would make people proudly have our backs and say yes, that's my friend or that's my child. The moment we crave for people's acceptance, we tend to be vulnerable by giving ears to what people around us say so that when they tell us they don't like what we've done, we just at times gullibly adjust that thing even when we knew we had done nothing wrong. This act is referred to as PEOPLE- PLEASING.  It happens when we are so conscious of what people might say about us so as not to break ties with friends or loved ones.  When people around us notice this vulnerability, they would be delighted in tossing us to and fro like they do to coins ...

New Year Resolution 📝

This resolution of a thing sef, it's always somehow. Many of us pledge to do some things or even vow to stop some things at the beginning of a year but eventually we get incapacitated. How numerous resolution get discarded by February baffles me alot sha. Another worst thing about this is that some people even forget they made a resolution as regards a particular thing. They remember at the close of the year and promise themselves they would turn it over to the incoming year and the cycle goes on and on. Why do we find it hard to stick by our resolutions? According to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, resolution may mean : A strong will, determination. A statement of intent, a vow. Some people, after so many failed resolutions have given up, they want to go with the flow of ''anything goes.'' The idea isn't that bad, it is however good when we map out how we want the new year to be. Whether to inculcate new things or thrash stuff that ain't ideal. Do...

Women👩👧

Most times we often depict the female gender as vulnerable. They are exposed to danger and all form of ill treatment in the society. I could remember a speech I delivered to my fellow coursemstes some years back in an English Presentation class. It was titled ''You're invaluable as a woman'' and it was targeted at appreciating the female gender. Coming from a family of six where my dad was the only male, I was so interested in the topic which made me treat it personally. Well, I believe by now we should have debunked the ancient myths of ''female children do not need formal education'' or ''a girl child will end up being in the kitchen'' and so on. Even though President Buhari once made a statement that undermined the female gender particularly about the First lady belonging to the other room. He retracted his words later but we all know the school of thought to which he belong. Women go through a lot, let's be factual about it. ...
